Taranaki is an awesome place to live, work, play and create. As our economy and businesses shift towards a low-emissions future, we need to make sure we keep all that’s great about Taranaki. Taranaki 2050 is our Roadmap that plans out where we are now, what our vision for Taranaki in 2050 is, and it starts to design some of the steps along the way to help get us there. The Taranaki 2050 Roadmap encompasses views and ideas from across the Taranaki community. It considers questions about what we want Taranaki to look like in 2050, and then starts to plot a course to help us get there. Rather than a conventional approach – a small number of people developing a strategy, and then consulting on it – we started with a blank sheet of paper with no preconceived ideas. The people of Taranaki have created the content of the Roadmap through a co-design process. This approach has been demanding and thought-provoking. It has created a vision and pathway that we can say we truly own. The Taranaki 2050 Roadmap's co-design process involved the first phase of creating the draft Roadmap through community consultation and the second phase of seeking feedback from voices that were missing.
Individuals from around the region came together to share their insights of what a low-emissions economy looks like for them in 2050.
The draft Roadmap was co-designed by 1,000 Taranaki residents through working and exploration groups, community workshops and a creative challenge for Taranaki youth.
The Taranaki 2050 project team visited over 40 locations and received feedback from thousands of Taranaki residents.
