More than 100 Actions were identified in the Tapuae Roa Action Plan with many now underway.

Several high priority actions have received support from the New Zealand government’s Provincial Growth Fund with additional support provided by the New Plymouth, Stratford and South Taranaki District Councils.

Government funding for two major projects was announced at the launch of the Tapuae Roa Action Plan.

Major projects

Taranaki Crossing
Provincial Growth Fund support of $13.34m will be used to develop the Taranaki Crossing and associated infrastructure.  The Taranaki Crossing is a series of walks linking key destinations in and close to Egmont National Park – Dawson Falls, Stratford Plateau, North Egmont, Mangorei Road, Pukeiti and Oakura. A Steering Group of MBIE, DoC and iwi leaders is currently planning implementation of the project.

Taranaki Cathedral of St Mary
Provincial Growth Fund support of $5m is contributing towards a $15m remediation and development project. It will create a flexible place for worship and a community space for arts, music, drama and other events. Read more about the Cathedral project here

New Energy Development Centre
Funding for the New Energy Development Centre has been committed by the Government, and establishment of the Centre will begin in July 2019. More information on the NNEDC is available here

H2 Taranaki Roadmap
The roadmap for the implementation of hydrogen technologies in Taranaki was launched on 15 March 2019. Read more about the H2 Taranaki Roadmap here

Transitional Economy
In partnership with MBIE’s Just Transitions Unit a draft Taranaki 2050 Transition Roadmap has being developed. The draft Roadmap was launched at the Just Transitions Summit in May 2019, and feedback is now open. Read the Taranaki 2050 Draft Roadmap here.  

Taranaki Major Regional food Opportunities
Four promising food opportunities will receive funding support with the goal of extending Taranaki’s food production ecosystem. This project will be completed in mid-2019.

Taranaki Food Network
A Business Case is being carried out on setting up a Taranaki Food network and will be complete in mid-2019. Read more about the Taranaki Food Network here

Taranaki Innovation Ecosystem
A Business Case is being prepared to explore the development of innovation ecosystems in Taranaki. This project will be complete in mid-2019.

Taranaki Regional Investment Fund
A feasibility study has been undertaken into the concept of establishing a Taranaki-focused investment fund to invest in strategic commercial opportunities, including Tapuae Roa projects. Read the report here.
